With a torque converter and stock Coleman gearing the engine doesn't produce the RPM that could pop a connecting rod or blow up the flywheel into your right leg. When you bypass or remove the governor, those parts are spinning much faster than designed. If the rod lets go, there's a good chance it will window the case, ruining the engine. If the flywheel lets go, it can be worse. That flywheel is around 6lbs of cast metal that's spinning at 5,000 or so rpm on an ungoverned engine.
